EEOC Swears in Keith E. Sonderling as EEOC Commissioner and Vice Chair

Early in his career, Sonderling worked in private practice and in 2017 served as Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator for the DOL/WHD

On September 22, 2020, the Senate voted 52-41 for Keith E. Sonderling to serve as Commissioner and Vice Chair to a term expiring on July 1, 2024. Sonderling was first nominated by President Trump on July 17, 2019 and re-nominated on March 16, 2020. One vacancy remains; however, Sonderling joins Chair Janet Dhillon and Commissioners Charlotte Burrows and Victoria Lipnic on a bipartisan Commission.

Prior to EEOC, in September of 2017, Sonderling joined the Department of Labor (DOL) as the Deputy Administrator, and then as Acting Administration of the Wage and Hour Division (WHD). Prior to joining the Trump Administration, he practiced labor and employment law in private practice with the Gunster Law Firm in Florida. In 2012, Florida Governor Rick Scott appointed Sonderling to serve as a Commissioner on the 4th District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission.

He received his B.S., magna cum laude, from the University of Florida, and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Nova Southeastern University.
